Art Iron Tops the North Quad at the University of Michigan

November 18, 2008

On November 18, 2008, approximately 5 months from the start of erection, ironworkers set the final pieces of steel during a topping out ceremony for the North Quad Residential and Academic Complex at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

North Quad consists of two L-shaped structures, a 7-story academic building consisting of standard structural steel and a 10-story residence hall also consisting of standard structural steel and the Girder-Slab System. The 360,000 square foot project will provide residential space for 460 students when completed in 2010, making it the campus's first new residence hall in 42 years. The entire steel and precast package, approximately 2,500 tons was completed by Art Iron, Inc. of Toledo, Ohio.
